Many patients are interested in receiving a dental implant and reach out to us to learn if they qualify as a candidate. During the initial consultation, if Dr. James Thomason determines that you have insufficient bone structure for a dental implant, he may recommend that you receive a bone graft first.

A bone graft procedure can be performed in a single visit, and typically involves sedation to ensure you are completely comfortable during the appointment. Please be sure to have a family member or friend drive you to and from our office.

Dr. James Thomason can take the bone grafting material for the graft from different sources, including the bone in your chin, a surgical grade cadaver, or synthetic bone. To perform the procedure, he creates an incision in the gum tissue to directly access the targeted area of bone. Our doctor then inserts the bone material and sutures the gums closed. Over the next few months, the natural bone tissue fuses with the new material to create density in your bone structure and allow your jawbone to support a dental implant.

If you are interested in having a tooth restored by a dental implant or have been told you need a bone graft, call North Fork Dental Care at 208-356-3012 to learn if you are an ideal candidate for a bone graft in Rexburg, Idaho. Dr. James Thomason and our team are excited to work with you!
