While your brush can reach a few of these places, floss gets into the nooks and crannies and effectively removes plaque. If you don’t remove this plaque on a regular basis, it’ll turn into tartar and cause gingivitis – a mild form of gum disease.
Since floss cleans the rest of your teeth that doesn’t get cleaned while brushing, it helps you prevent getting any more cavities. Removing debris stuck between your teeth removes the potential for that debris to cause a cavity, and you just can’t remove some items with toothpicks (which harm your gums) or brushing.
