Plaque is a dangerous substance that harms your smile in more ways than you might realize. In fact, it can promote cavities, gum disease, and white-spotted teeth. Unfortunately, plaque likes to build up around braces brackets and wires. So, it’s important to do all you can to prevent this from happening so you can have a top-notch smile and oral health. Our dentist, Dr. James Thomason, is happy to help you by giving you some tips.
First, brush your teeth many times each day. Our team recommends brushing after breakfast, after lunch, after dinner, and before you go to sleep at night. Brushing this often can keep your smile nice and clean. As you scrub, please remember to use a soft-bristled toothbrush. Also, because you’re brushing so often, remember to replace your brush when necessary.
Second, floss your smile at least once a day. This can help you clean the little nooks and crannies of your braces and smile. If you can, floss more often, like after you brush throughout the day. If flossing is a tough task for you, talk to our orthodontic team about flossing tools that can make it easier.
Third, rinse your mouth daily. Swishing with mouthwash can clean your mouth, kill bacteria, and even freshen your breath. For best results, you can rinse up to four times a day.
